Paintings for Shelby, Iowa

Over ten years ago, I made a set of paintings that were based on locations in Shelby, Iowa. Shelby is a very small town about 30 minutes from Omaha and one of my best friends lives there. The paintings were a fundraiser for her. I still like this idea of doing a set of paintings for a city and hope that one day I can return to this idea.

New Mexico Landscape

I started experimenting with encaustic and mixed media during the last year that I lived in New Mexico. This is a small landscape that encorporates scrapbooking paper with encaustic.

Candles

This is a photo of a painting that I made in 2014, but never finished and eventually painted over with encaustics. During that period, I was living in New Mexico and this was an image from Christmas Eve in Albuquerque. I was going through files today and came across it, wondering why I actually destroyed it? Perfectionism…something about it didn't seem right or didn't fit with everything else that I was making at the time.
