Dancers and other subjects
Saturday/May 11/2013 Filed in: Encaustic Painting

If you are looking at some of my new encaustic paintings and wondering why I have switched subjects between flowers and dancers, the reason is simple. For quite awhile I have been wanting to try something new, to experiment, and as a personal goal I wanted to try more figurative work. This has meshed nicely with trying a new medium. The other reason is that I am part of a community of dancers - blues dancers to be exact - and wanted some of my experience of that to wash over into my paintings.
What do you think? Is it working? Not working?
Trying encaustic
Saturday/April 27/2013 Filed in: Encaustic Painting

In February I was asked to help assist a few demos at the Artisan Art Supply stores in Albuquerque and Santa Fe for Ampersand Artist Boards. The demo was for encaustic, a medium within painting that I had never tried myself. After the demos, i decided to try it. I finally got all of the supplies together in my studio and it’s been really fun so far.
