The Garden Series began in the summer of 2008, following the Midwest flooding. As my parent's geared up to sell the 15-acre home in the country where I had spent my childhood, I walked the dead end road in Iowa for the last time and collected images of weeds from the roadside.
A week later a farmer near-by mowed down the weeds that included purple thistles and white morning glories. I was interested in how things that are beautiful are fleeting but also a nusciance to others.
Many of the images that I painted were later destroyed (including the apple trees and pink honeysuckle) either by new landowners or flooding. I created all of these new paintings from a distance, after relocating to New Mexico due to the flood.
Since that time, I have continued to collect images of plants and flowers from unusual spaces, and try to orange them in different types of compositions. I am interested in color, and well as pushing the boundaries of botanical art.
